Artist Statement

When we stand before nature, we often experience emotions that cannot be easily defined or classified. Perhaps it’s wonder or awe, a lost love, a childhood long past, sadness, inspiration or religion. The feeling depends on the observer at a particular moment in his or her life. My painting seeks to capture that moment, what ever it may be, for whomever happens upon my creations. The shape and color that form the rocks, trees and rivers of my art are simply my effort to generate something in the viewer: something we cannot always easily explain; something that lurks inside us and seeps through our beings, escaping occasionally into our consciousness and awareness; something we somehow know.
